About Junior Trader

The Competition

Our mission is to improve diversity and access to financial services by stimulating investment analysis and thought in young adults.

The series starts with a fast paced tour of the roles available to graduates in the city, and simulates equities trading in the form of a stock picking competition. A second more detailed lecture on “what moves a share price”  completes students teams’  basic knowledge enabling teams to choose a balanced portfolio of investments in retail shares taking account of the prevailing economic environment.

To finish, a short written report explaining their choice of investments is then required for each participant to receive a vital Certificate of Attendance – demonstrating an awareness of and exposure to financial services to prospective employers or educators.

Get inspired

Marc’s investment career began at an early age and he famously used his school old pay-phone to buy and sell shares before working his way up on dealing floors to be a Director of an Investment Bank specialising in the retail sector. He later launched and floated his own investment management plc with over £1bn client assets under management in the UK and Guernsey as CEO.

Marc has acted as broker to Tesco, Wal-Mart, and several other retailers and co-founded the hedge-fund trading desk at Kleinwort turning over $100m/day and launched several innovative funds in the Channel Islands.

Through this competition, Marc’s aim is to improve the diversity of finance applicants, helping unlock doors into the City for as many students as possible in lieu of rare work experience placements.
